From the Editor: Responses to Yesterday's article

Yesterday one of our staff published an article Documenting the Tension between the CFGC and World Gaming .  After going over the feedback that was received, the editor has decided to post this article in regards to the feedback.

Many people believe that yesterday's article was a "hit piece" against the CFGC (Canadian Fighting Game Community).  This cannot be further from the truth.  The author in question was posting their objective thoughts on the matter between Canadian Street Fighter and World Gaming.

World Gaming does not need Street Fighter, MVCI (Marvel vs Capcom Infinity), or any other fighting game to extend their brand.  Note their Twitter bio

While mentioning high profile games such as FIFA and Madden, you will notice the omission of anything Fighting Game Related.  This is because World Gaming has taken on Street Fighter as a charity case, attempting to help the community take off into the world of eSports (we here at eSports Expose support the capitalization of the S in eSports).

Let's look for a moment at the prize support for some of the largest esports events of the last year

To say Capcom has not been paying its top players is obvious.  Note how little it pays out in comparison to the respective costs of these games.

  • Dota 2 - Free
  • League of Legends - Free
  • Madden - 60 dollars
  • Overwatch - 40 dollars
  • Street Fighter V - 60 dollars + 105 dollars in DLC

For deploying a game with the highest conceivable price, it is abhorrent how little Capcom pays out.  And sticking with this trend, here is the amount of prize support Capcom has offered for their newest game "Marvel vs Capcom Infinity"

15,000 dollars.

This paltry amount would not even be a blip on the above chart.  So this begs the question : why should World Gaming care about fighting games?  Not even in respect to Canada, but worldwide.  Every mention that World Gaming gives fighting games on #weeklyreplays is a gift to the CGFC.

World Gaming does not need Street Fighter, the CFGC needs World Gaming.  With the severe backlash in regards to host paperbats objective comments on the scene, we here at eSports expose would be surprised if World Gaming keeps the fighting game albatross around their necks.

In closing, here is some advice I can give to the CFGC:

Play a different game

As a show of good faith, eSports Expose will continue to provide coverage of fighting game events, but understand that it is only with our goodwill that your community has any reach at all.
